Ngcobo (Eastern Cape): Motorists travelling on the R58 from Ngcobo towards Elliot are facing major delays after protesters blocked the road near Cefani on Monday.
Eyewitnesses reported that a group of residents gathered along the highway, placing debris and other obstacles to prevent vehicles from passing. Traffic police and local authorities have been notified and are on the scene, but as of the latest update, the road remains closed.
Authorities urge commuters to use alternative routes and to exercise caution when travelling in the area. “We are engaging with the protesters to clear the road safely and restore traffic flow as soon as possible,” said a spokesperson from the Ngcobo Traffic Department.
Residents are advised to stay updated via local radio stations and social media for further developments regarding the protest and road closures.
