Cacadu Mayor Brings Contractors, Roads Set for Big Upgrade!
Emalahleni Mayor Introduces Contractors, Boosts Local Infrastructure Projects
Emalahleni, Eastern Cape – Emalahleni Mayor, Councillor Nontombizanele Koni, together with Portfolio Head for Community Services, Councillor Zola Bebeza, Director for Infrastructure Development and Human Settlement, Mr Xola Mntonintshi, and Project Manager for road construction projects, Mr Ludwe Malusi, recently introduced contractors to the community for two key road maintenance projects, marking a significant step forward in the municipality’s infrastructure improvement plans for Ward 12 and Ward 01.
The first project, located in Mkhaphusi village in Ward 12, involves the maintenance of a 3km gravel road. Work will include rip and recompaction of the existing road, roadbed preparation, regravelling, and construction of dish drains and pipe culverts.
Tati Group (PTY) Ltd has been appointed as the contractor, with a project duration of six months. The project will create employment opportunities for five general workers and one Community Liaison Officer.
Similarly, the second project, in Rhwantsana village in Ward 01, focuses on the maintenance of another 3km gravel road. The scope mirrors the first project, with five general workers and two security guards employed. No Community Liaison Officer is required for this project, which is also expected to take six months.
In addition to road projects, Mayor Koni attended the handover of an electrification project facilitated by Eskom at Mkhaphusi village in Ward 12.
The projects, awarded to contractors Gcuma Projects and Nkinkura Enterprise, include the construction of 21.8km and 4km 22kv linked lines, installation of new transformers, and dismantling of old ones. The electrification projects are set to benefit multiple villages, including Mkhaphusi, Luxeni, and Pheshwya, while providing jobs for local residents.
Mayor Koni emphasised the importance of community involvement in all municipal projects. “These projects are not only about infrastructure but about our people. I urge all residents to take ownership, attend meetings, and actively participate in raising their concerns, suggestions, and advice,” she said.
Community members were engaged throughout the introduction meetings, voicing their opinions and interacting directly with the contractors and municipal officials.
The municipality views these projects as a critical step toward improving local infrastructure, boosting economic opportunities, and fostering stronger community participation.
