Road infrastructure projects introduced in Emalahleni area
Residents in the Emalahleni Local Municipality can expect improvements to key roads in the area after the Department of Transport introduced contractors for two road infrastructure projects.
The projects, which were recently introduced to community members, will focus on road maintenance and improvements on important routes used by local residents and motorists.
Pothole repairs on Komani–Dordrecht road
One of the projects will take place on the MR00659 (R392) road between Komani and Dordrecht. Work on this route will mainly focus on repairing potholes that have affected the road and created difficulties for drivers travelling between the two towns.
The R392 is an important link used daily by commuters, transport vehicles and local residents travelling between Komani and Dordrecht. The planned repairs aim to improve driving conditions and enhance safety for road users.
Regravelling project at Tsembeyi Junction
The second project will take place at DR08564 at Tsembeyi Junction. The work will involve the regravelling of approximately 8 kilometres of road passing Fini Bridge.
Regravelling is expected to improve accessibility for residents who rely on the road, particularly in rural areas where gravel roads often deteriorate due to weather conditions and heavy use.
Short-term projects creating local jobs
Both road infrastructure projects are expected to run for a period of two months.
According to information shared during the introduction of the contractors, the projects will also create employment opportunities for members of the local community. Each project will employ eight local workers.
These positions will include two security personnel and six general workers per project.
Community engagement during introduction
Community members attended the introduction of the contractors and engaged with the delegation during the programme.
The event was led by the Portfolio Head for Infrastructure Development and Human Settlements, Councillor Tandeka Kulashe, who attended the programme while serving as Acting Mayor.
Residents welcomed the projects and took the opportunity to interact with officials during the engagement.
The introduction forms part of efforts to improve road infrastructure in the municipality while also providing short-term employment opportunities for local residents.
