Eastern Cape Premier Lubabalo Mabuyane, alongside Education MEC Fundile Gade, officially handed over the redeveloped Sitoza Senior Secondary School in Ngcobo today, 14 January 2026. “New year, new chapter — and a brand-new future is unfolding here in Engcobo,” Premier Mabuyane said during the ceremony, addressing learners, educators, and the local community.

From resilience to transformation

Despite years of aging infrastructure, Sitoza Secondary School maintained strong academic performance, demonstrating determination and resilience from both learners and staff. Today, that dedication is being rewarded with a modern, state-of-the-art learning environment.

The R52 million redevelopment includes:

A message of hope and opportunity

Walking through the new halls, the Premier reminded learners: “You deserve the best. With improved facilities and renewed hope, there are truly no limits to what the learners of Sitoza Senior Secondary School can achieve.”

A milestone for the Eastern Cape education system

Sitoza Senior Secondary School serves over 1 500 learners from surrounding villages and draws pupils from several feeder primary schools, including Zibuthe, Tshapile, Zwelinzima Mbambakazi, Mdanjelwa, Lower Gqaga, and Hlopekazi. The redevelopment underscores the provincial government’s commitment to providing safe, functional, and modern learning spaces, particularly in rural and historically under-resourced areas.
