Power Restoration Efforts Slow as Weather Halts Repairs in Komani
Cable Delivered and First Section Energised
The Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality (EMLM) has confirmed that the long-awaited replacement cable for the ongoing power outage affecting several central Komani streets was delivered today, marking a significant step forward in repair efforts.
Technicians managed to install and energise a key section of the new cable, successfully restoring supply from the Library substation through to the Prince Alfred substation. This allowed power to return to parts of the Prince Alfred Street area earlier this afternoon.
Weather Conditions Stall Progress
However, progress was unexpectedly halted when unfavourable weather conditions moved into town, forcing teams to suspend the remainder of the work.
The stoppage meant that Queens Drive, Grey Street, Ebden Street and portions of Prince Alfred Street remain without supply despite partial installation being completed.
Municipal teams were reportedly prepared to continue working into the late afternoon, but conditions made it unsafe to proceed.
Repairs to Resume Tomorrow Morning
EMLM confirmed that technicians will resume restoration efforts tomorrow morning, with the remaining section of the 300-metre cable still needing to be installed and energised.
The municipality also issued an apology to affected residents, acknowledging the prolonged inconvenience caused by the outage and delays.
Municipality Issues Apology
In its statement, the municipality reassured residents that teams remain committed to completing the work as quickly as weather and safety conditions allow.
