Power Outage Hits Komani Again — Top Town and CBD Affected as Line 1 Trips

Komani residents are once again without electricity this Sunday as another power interruption hits parts of the town — including Top Town, the CBD, and surrounding residential areas.

According to the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality, the fault originated when Breaker 1 feeding Komani Line 1 tripped, cutting power to large sections of the grid.

Municipal spokespersons confirmed that technical teams are on site conducting fault-finding and working to restore electricity as soon as possible.

“The municipal team is attending to the issue. Breaker 1 on Komani Line 1 tripped and our electricians are fault-finding,” the municipality said in a brief statement this afternoon.

Top Town off again — residents frustrated

For many in Top Town, this has become an all-too-familiar Sunday story. The latest blackout marks the third consecutive weekend of significant power disruptions across Komani.

“Top Town is off again — it’s like clockwork now,” said a resident on Robinson Road. “We plan around power cuts instead of around plans. Every Sunday we brace ourselves.”

Small businesses and restaurants, especially in the Cathcart Road and Queen’s Drive areas, have also voiced concern about the impact of repeated outages on weekend trade.

Municipal engineers have indicated that repeated breaker trips point to a deeper technical or equipment issue along Komani Line 1, which supplies power to several key distribution points in town.

“We are investigating what’s causing the breaker to trip repeatedly — it could be equipment fatigue or a fault on the feeder line,” said one on-site technician. “We’ll restore supply safely and look at permanent solutions.”

By early evening, teams were still fault-finding and isolating affected areas to restore power safely and gradually. Residents are advised to switch off high-consumption appliances such as geysers and heaters to prevent overload when power returns.

The municipality has urged patience while the Komani Line 1 issue is resolved and reiterated its commitment to improving reliability across the grid.
