Nxuba family left homeless after fire – how you can help
A family in Nxuba, under the Inxuba Yethemba Local Municipality, has been left homeless after their house was destroyed by fire on Tuesday, 7 April 2026.
The blaze left the household with nothing, with reports indicating they escaped with only the clothes they were wearing.
No injuries, but everything lost
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. However, the family – a mother and her two children – has lost all their belongings and now depends on community support.
The incident has sparked a local appeal for assistance as the family begins the difficult process of rebuilding their lives.
What the family needs
Community members have shared a list of urgent needs, particularly clothing:
- Two boys: clothing sizes 5–6 and 9–10
- Shoes: sizes 9 and 1
- Adult woman: clothing size 46–48
- Shoes: size 5
How to drop off donations
Residents who would like to assist can do so by dropping off clothing and essential items at the following location:
3 Dlepu Street, Lingelihle (Nxuba/Cradock)
Donations can be delivered directly to the address, where items are being collected for the affected family.
Those who are unable to donate clothing may also assist financially through the details being shared within community networks. Residents are encouraged to verify these details before making any transfers.
Community support critical
Situations like this often leave families vulnerable, especially when they lose everything in a matter of minutes. In many cases, immediate support from the community becomes the only safety net.
Local residents have already begun sharing the appeal widely, with hopes of gathering enough donations to help the family get back on their feet.
Anyone in Nxuba and surrounding areas who is able to assist is encouraged to contribute, even small donations, as every item can make a difference.
