Hijacked Eskom Vehicle Recovered — Suspect Arrested in Cacadu
KOMANI, EASTERN CAPE — A hijacked Eskom bakkie was recovered in the Cacadu area (formerly Lady Frere) on Saturday, 18 October 2025, after a coordinated operation between Komani Crime Intelligence (CI), the K9 Unit, and Red Guard Security.
Information about the stolen vehicle was received and acted upon by law enforcement. A joint response team immediately followed up on the intelligence, leading them to a location in Cacadu where the Eskom bakkie was found and secured.
One male suspect was arrested on the scene and taken into police custody. The suspect is currently detained at Cacadu SAPS, and all exhibits connected to the case have been booked for further investigation. The recovered vehicle has been towed to Komani Vehicle Safeguarding Services (VSS) for inspection and verification.
Police confirmed that the suspect is expected to appear in court on 20 October 2025.
Coordinated Law Enforcement Response
The recovery follows a collaborative effort between the Komani CI team, the SAPS K9 Unit, and Red Guard Security. This kind of partnership allows for rapid sharing of information and resources, increasing the chances of a quick recovery after reports of stolen or hijacked vehicles.
The operation was executed efficiently, with units working together to track the vehicle’s movements, verify intelligence, and respond in real time. Officials at the scene ensured that the vehicle was secured safely and transported for official examination.
Importance of Recovering Utility Vehicles
Stolen service vehicles, such as those belonging to Eskom, often carry valuable tools and equipment needed for maintenance and repairs in local communities. Recovering these vehicles not only prevents further loss but also helps ensure that essential services can continue without disruption.
Eskom vehicles are frequently used in remote or rural areas, making them more vulnerable to crime. Law enforcement agencies continue to encourage the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity involving marked service vehicles to the nearest police station.
Ongoing Investigation
The case remains under active investigation, and police are expected to release further details once court proceedings begin. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether any additional suspects are being sought in connection with the hijacking.
The recovered vehicle will remain under police custody at Komani VSS until forensic and administrative processes are completed. Once cleared, it will be handed back to Eskom’s fleet management division for operational use.
Law enforcement officials have praised the cooperation between Komani CI, K9, and Red Guard Security, saying that such partnerships play a vital role in tackling vehicle-related crimes and ensuring faster response times across districts.
