Duo to Appear in Ezibeleni Court on Drug Possession and Dealing Charges
Two suspects, aged 20 and 53, are expected to appear before the Ezibeleni Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 5 February 2026, on charges of drug possession and dealing following their arrest during a police patrol in Ezibeleni.
According to a media statement issued by the Office of the Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, the suspects were arrested on Wednesday morning, 4 February 2026, by members of the Ezibeleni Visible Policing (VISPOL) unit while conducting routine patrols in the area.
At around 07:30, police officers noticed a suspicious black Volkswagen Polo with Eastern Cape registration plates. The vehicle was followed until it stopped at a residential property in Elkuphumleni, Zone 1, Ezibeleni.
Upon arrival at the premises, police approached the driver of the vehicle, a 53-year-old foreign national, and requested permission to search the car.
Consent was granted, and officers discovered an undisclosed amount of cash along with several packages of suspected tik (methamphetamine). The items were immediately confiscated.
Police then requested permission to search the house where the vehicle was parked. The request was again granted. Inside the residence, officers found a 20-year-old South African woman, who is reportedly the girlfriend of the driver.
A further search of the house led to the recovery of additional suspected drugs and cash.
The vehicle, believed to have been used in the commission of the alleged offences, was also seized. The collective estimated street value of the seized drugs and cash exceeds R150,000.
Both suspects were arrested at the scene and will appear before the Ezibeleni Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 5 February 2026.
Reacting to the arrest, Chris Hani District Commissioner Major General Rudolph Adolph expressed concern over serious crimes in the district, noting that many are linked to drug abuse and trafficking.
He urged community members to work closely with the police by reporting suspected drug-related activities in their neighbourhoods.
The District Commissioner assured residents that information can be provided anonymously if requested.
