HEARTBREAK at Tyreshop!

A newborn baby, wrapped in a plastic bag and allegedly dumped in a hard-to-notice spot, was rescued by a quick-thinking doctor on Tuesday, December 10th. The drama unfolded in the afternoon around 15:20 after Dr. Phiwe Jafta was alerted to the crisis opposite the Nonesi Mall taxi rank.

The alleged mother was at a nearby salon doing her hair when she asked for a toilet. When told there were no toilets at the salon, she went to another nearby ablution facility. She was inside for more than an hour.

BLOODY MESS SPARKED ALARM!

A person doing hair next to her noticed the unusual time lapse and went to check on her. They found a pool of blood on the floor and a cat not far from the toilet. The person identified a baby crying, realising that the woman had likely given birth and then abandoned the child. They then tried means of getting to the baby.

OXYGEN CRISIS: DOCTOR’S QUICK-THINKING RESCUE!

Dr. Phiwe Jafta was called urgently to the tyre shop from his surgery. When he arrived on that fateful Tuesday afternoon, the baby was in a critical state: blueish in complexion (cyanosis) due to lack of oxygen, which could be deadly, and also suffering from potential hypothermia (low temperature) as the baby was naked.

This is what a real doctor with passion does! Dr. Jafta immediately attended to the baby via first aid, demonstrating someone who takes that extra step—a move that is truly commendable. Both the mother and the baby were then taken to the Frontier Hospital alongside Dr. Jafta, and the baby has since received necessary care.

Dr. Jafta says he is still in belief of the miracle that the baby’s life was saved, especially considering the events of December 10th. He confirmed he had to leave everything in his surgery to save this life.

“I don’t know the state of the mother about accounting to this act,” he commented, adding that “she should be examined to find the root cause to such an ill behaviour.”

A DOCTOR’S PROMISE AND PLEA!

The Doctor further stated that he will buy clothes for the baby and deliver them tomorrow. He is calling for persons who are willing to donate anything towards the baby to come to his surgery or contact him on 078-878-5601.

• Dr. Jafta personally bought clothes, formula milk, nappies, and surgical spirit.

At the hospital, nurses worked hand in hand with the police and social workers. The family was traced and found. No arrest has been made so far as there is a need to assess the situation properly and take necessary steps and precautions. The child is safe and now in the good caring hands of the family.
