A 31-year-old taxi driver made his first appearance in the Cacadu Magistrate’s Court today, 4 February 2026, facing charges of attempted murder related to a domestic violence incident.

The suspect, identified as Yanga Skelenge, was arrested by Cacadu SAPS on Monday, 2 February, following an investigation into an assault that took place late last month.

According to police reports, the 28-year-old victim was at her residence in Zakhele Locality on the night of 26 January.

She was reportedly asleep with her two-year-old child when the suspect, who is her boyfriend, arrived at the house at approximately 21:00. It is alleged that Skelenge gained entry to the home by kicking down the door.

Once inside, the suspect allegedly began shouting and swearing at the victim, accusing her of infidelity. The situation escalated into a violent physical assault where the suspect allegedly used a knife and a fork to stab the victim multiple times.

The woman sustained stab wounds to her left thigh and arm. She was rescued when neighbours and friends of the suspect intervened. She was subsequently transported to Glen Grey Hospital for medical attention.

Following the incident, the victim lodged a formal complaint at the Cacadu Police Station, leading to the registration of an attempted murder case and the suspect’s eventual arrest.

The District Commissioner has condemned the attack, expressing concern over the rising levels of domestic violence that often lead to the premature loss of life.

He urged SAPS members to treat domestic violence incidents with the highest priority to ensure perpetrators are brought to justice.
