Raw sewage floods Mlungisi homes as complaints go unanswered
Residents of Zwelitsha in Mlungisi say they have been reporting an overflowing sewer to Chris Hani District Municipality since last year and the municipality has done nothing to fix the problem.
Residents of Q67 and Q68 have had to close their doors and not sit outside as raw sewage is flowing in their premises.
The two houses have been complaining to the municipality since July last year.
They claim that they have been ignored.
Komani News has videos of Reatile Andiswa Taliwe, reporting to a municipal officials, who has since ignored her reports.
Taliwe told Komani News that they have been reporting their problem since July 2025.
“Instead of attending to the problem, municipal workers have been rude to us. I reported all that to their supervisor who has since ignored me,” she said.
Taliwe said she has a creche at her premises and the overflowing sewer is a health hazard to young children.
“Children can’t even go outside. The situation is getting worse and it is affecting us,” she said.
She said she would appreciate any help she could get to fix the problem.
Komani News sent the video and questions to CHDM spokeswoman Nangamso Ngceke who said she has referred the matter to customer service.
