UPDATE: Police Confirm Murder Case Opened

Police have now confirmed that a murder case has been opened following the discovery of a man’s body in an open space in Magxaki on Thursday afternoon.

According to SAPS spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, Mlungisi police responded to the scene at around 14:20 where a 53-year-old man was found lying on his back with multiple stab wounds.

Emergency Medical Services were called and the man was certified dead at the scene.

Police say the suspect and motive for the murder are not yet known, and investigations are currently underway.

A lifeless body of an elderly man was found dumped in the veld between Railway and Magxaki on Thursday afternoon.

The body of a man known as Xolani was found with stab wounds on his upper body.

According to the witnesses, the body was found by people who were herding animals, who alerted the community and the police.

The police and forensics, after seeing the body claimed that the incident did not happen where the body was found.

“According to the scene, there is no blood at the scene and it looks like the person was killed somewhere and was dumped here,” they said as they chatted with each other on the scene.

When Komani News arrived at the scene, a group of people were at the scene and the police started arriving.

The man was lying down with a bottle of unfinished Namaqua also known as Varantyontyo by locals next to him.

When the forensic department took him, his clothes had blood but there was little blood on the scene where he was allegedly dumped.

The community could not believe how someone could be murdered and dumped at the same spot where the lifeless body of a newborn baby girl was found dumpedon January 20,2026.

One community member said how the man was murdered is brutal and no one deserves to be killed like that.

“This area is becoming dangerous as this is the second body to be found here,” she said.

A man in his late twenties arrived as police were about to leave the scene.

Speaking with the police, he said he knows the deceased as he is sister’s boyfriend.

He was asked to accompany the police and report the murder to the deceased family.

Police had not release any information on the death.
