Ezibeleni to Face Water Disruptions as Reservoirs Undergo Urgent Cleaning
Residents of Ezibeleni are expected to experience water supply disruptions on Tuesday, 3 February 2026, following an unplanned but essential maintenance operation on local water reservoirs.
The interruption was announced by Chris Hani District Municipality, which confirmed that the work involves the cleaning and disinfection of reservoirs supplying the area. According to the municipality, the process forms part of routine measures aimed at protecting water quality and public health.
Why the maintenance is taking place
Reservoir cleaning and disinfection are necessary to prevent contamination, remove sediment buildup, and ensure that stored water meets required safety standards before distribution to households.
While such work is typically planned in advance, the municipality indicated that the current operation is unplanned, suggesting an immediate operational or quality-control requirement.
Areas most likely to be affected
The municipality warned that residents in high-lying areas of Ezibeleni may be the most affected, particularly during the morning hours.
These areas could experience low water pressure or temporary water outages, depending on reservoir levels while the maintenance is underway.
Residents in lower-lying areas may still have access to water, although pressure fluctuations cannot be ruled out.
Communication and updates
The district municipality stated that it will provide updates as the situation develops, especially if the maintenance work takes longer than anticipated or if further interruptions become necessary.
An apology was issued to residents for the inconvenience caused, with the municipality acknowledging the disruption such interruptions can have on households, businesses, schools, and healthcare facilities.
Where residents can get help
Residents experiencing prolonged outages or requiring urgent assistance are advised to contact the 24-hour Customer Call Centre on 0800 100 100.
The notice was signed by Municipal Manager Gcobani Mashiyi, who reiterated the municipality’s responsibility to maintain safe and reliable water infrastructure across the district.
