Meet Vuyisani Kapiyana, an 18-year-old whiz kid from Ezibeleni Township in Komani, who’s about to make his mark at the University of Fort Hare.

This bright youngster has just been welcomed as a first-year student, and we couldn’t be more stoked for him!

Kapiyana’s academic prowess is no surprise, having bagged five distinctions in his matric exams.

The talented teenager from Sixishe High School excelled in subjects like isiXhosa Home Language, Agricultural Sciences, Life Sciences, Maths Literacy, and Geography.

And the cherry on top, he’s the first in his immediate family to set foot in university.

The youngest of three siblings, raised by a single parent, Kapiyana said his schooling journey has always been driven by a desire to attend university.

“I have always strived to obtain good results to ensure that I qualify for university, and here I am today,” he jovially expressed.

Kapiyana’s interest in law began when he started watching real-life court proceedings and the Madlanga commissions of inquiry.

“I see myself in that space, wearing a legal robe and standing for justice.”

On Fort Hare being his university of choice, Kapiyana said there was no doubt that this was where his career aspirations would be realized.

“One just needs to look at the long list of legal giants that were produced at this University, so it was an easy decision for me,” – a decision he said was also backed by his high school teacher, who is a UFH alumnus.

As he begins his studies, Kapiyana said dedication and self-discipline will be essential to completing the journey he has started
