Missing East London Man Found Deceased Days After Disappearance

Mdantsane, East London – A man who was reported missing on Komani News on 26 December has been found deceased, bringing a tragic end to days of uncertainty for his family and the Mdantsane community.

Lukhanyo Terrance Xhotyeni, a resident of N.U. 7 in Mdantsane, went missing on 20 December 2025 after leaving his home to visit his grandson, who was attending an initiation school. According to his family, he never arrived at his destination and all attempts to contact him were unsuccessful.

A missing person case was opened with the South African Police Service (SAPS) shortly after his disappearance, prompting a public appeal for assistance and widespread sharing of his details across social media platforms.

Body Discovered Near Stream in Unit 15

Police later confirmed that Xhotyeni’s body was discovered on 28 December 2025, eight days after he was last seen. He was found near a stream in Unit 15, several kilometres from his home in N.U. 7.

Family members were only contacted by police on 2 January 2026 to formally identify the body.

According to information provided by the family, there were no visible injuries observed at the time of discovery, and his personal belongings, including his cellphone, were still in his possession.

Post-Mortem Investigation Underway

SAPS has confirmed that a post-mortem examination has been opened to determine the cause of death. At this stage, authorities have not released further details, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Police are continuing to assess how Xhotyeni came to be found several units away from where he was last seen. No foul play has been confirmed at this point.
