N6 Collision Near Sterkstroom Sends BMW Driver to Frontier Hospital
Traffic Alert: Crash on N6 Near Sterkstroom Turnoff
Komani, Eastern Cape – Motorists travelling on the N6 this afternoon are urged to take caution following a motor vehicle accident near the Sterkstroom turnoff. The incident occurred at around 16:30 on the N6-04 section at Km 49.8, involving a Toyota Hilux double-cab bakkie and a BMW in what responders described as a side-impact collision.
Emergency medical services attended the scene and found one woman — the driver of the BMW — requiring urgent care. She was triaged as a Red patient and transported to Frontier Hospital for further medical attention. The driver and passenger of the Toyota Hilux were assessed but declined transportation.
At this stage, no significant traffic delays have been reported, and vehicles continue to pass the area with normal flow. However, motorists are advised to reduce speed, remain alert, and approach the scene cautiously as responders finalise clean-up and ensure roadway safety.
The N6 is a busy regional route connecting Komani and Sterkstroom, and late-afternoon traffic can increase risks, particularly when approaching intersections and turnoff points. With the festive travel period approaching, drivers are reminded to maintain safe following distances, avoid sudden lane changes, and remain vigilant for any roadside activity.
Authorities on scene are expected to conduct a standard investigation into the circumstances of the collision. No further official information has been released at this time.
Motorists using the N6 this evening should remain aware that emergency personnel may still be present in the area. Drivers are encouraged to pass patiently, adhere to road rules, and allow responders sufficient space to work safely.
