Westbourne Housebreaker Caught After Dramatic Foot Chase in Komani
Komani – A suspected housebreaker was apprehended in Westbourne, Komani, on Thursday morning after a swift foot chase that led to the recovery of stolen property. The information was confirmed by Safeguard Security Services following their tactical team’s intervention in the area.
Suspicious Activity Leads to Pursuit
At approximately 08:30, a private security investigator was patrolling along Victoria Road near New Rest when he noticed a man known for previous housebreaking activities walking with a black amplifier in hand.
When the suspect spotted the patrol vehicle turning toward him, he dropped the amplifier and fled, triggering a rapid response from the tactical team. Officers pursued the man on foot through nearby streets in Wesbourne, ultimately cornering and detaining him after a brief chase.
Admission and Recovery of Stolen Goods
After being apprehended, the suspect was taken in for questioning. He later admitted to breaking into a house about an hour earlier in Mager Street, Westbourne, and directed the team to the property.
According to the information provided, the suspect revealed that he had hidden additional stolen items in a neighbour’s yard. A subsequent search led to the recovery of several stolen goods, including:
-
Ecco black amplifier
-
Fortune cards
-
Capitec bank card
-
JBL headphones
-
Two dumbbells
-
Striped jacket
The homeowner, who was not home during the incident, was notified. Upon her return, she confirmed that all the recovered items belonged to her.
Owner Declines to Open Case Despite Arrest
According to information received from Safeguard Security Services, the suspect was not handed over to the police because the homeowner declined to open a criminal case.
Safeguard confirmed that their team had fully recovered the stolen property and identified the suspect, but legal action could not continue without the victim’s cooperation. This type of situation is not uncommon, as some residents prefer to avoid court proceedings and testifying, even when an arrest is successful.
Despite this, Safeguard noted that their priority is to protect clients and recover stolen property, which was successfully achieved in this instance.
Ongoing Concern Over Reluctance to Prosecute
The reluctance of residents to open cases continues to pose a challenge for both law enforcement and private security companies. Without formal charges, suspects are often released, reducing the chances of conviction and allowing repeat offences to occur.
Community members are urged to report all incidents and work closely with authorities to ensure that criminals face justice. Increased collaboration between residents, police, and private security services remains vital to improving safety in Komani and its surrounding suburbs.
