Two separate motor vehicle accidents involving livestock were reported within 30 minutes on roads near Komani on Tuesday evening, prompting warnings to motorists to drive with extreme caution.

The first incident occurred at approximately 8:00 PM on the Tarka Road, about 25 kilometres outside Komani, where a vehicle collided with cows on the roadway. No injuries were reported, but a large herd of cows remains on the side of the road, creating an ongoing hazard for drivers.

Shortly after, at around 8:20 PM on the Nonesi Pass towards Lady Frere, a second vehicle collided with cows. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in this case either.

Motorists urged to be vigilant, especially at night

These incidents underline the danger posed by livestock on rural and regional roads in the Eastern Cape, particularly at night when visibility is limited. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, remain alert, and anticipate sudden obstacles on routes such as the Tarka Road and Nonesi Pass.
