Two Arrested After Viral Assault on Security Guard in East London

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the assault of a private security guard at eBuhlanti Marina Glen in East London, Eastern Cape, an incident that sparked widespread outrage after footage circulated on social media.

According to SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana, police acted swiftly after the video depicting the violent assault began trending online.

“The SAPS confirms the arrest of two suspects in connection with a viral video depicting the assault of a security guard at eBuhlanti Marina Glen in East London,” Gantana said.

Incident Sparked Public Anger

The assault, which was filmed and shared across multiple platforms, reportedly took place at the beachfront area of Marina Glen. Social media posts and eyewitness accounts indicate that the incident began when the security guard approached a group of individuals who were allegedly parked improperly near the beach access road.

It is alleged that the guard requested the group to move their vehicle, after which he was attacked. The footage shows a violent confrontation, prompting widespread condemnation from the public and renewed debate about the safety of security personnel performing their duties.

Police Commended for Swift Response

Acting Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Major General Thandiswa Kupiso, praised the prompt response by SAPS members, saying the arrests demonstrated law enforcement’s commitment to addressing violent crime and restoring public confidence.
