TAXI PATROL TRIES TO ARREST THE POLICE

MUSINA – It was a case of “wrong place, wrong time” and definitely the wrong car for three taxi operators in Limpopo.

The men, who thought they were the kings of the road, ended up in handcuffs after they mistakenly tried to bully members of SAPS Limpopo Provincial Tracking Team.

OWNING THE ROAD

The drama unfolded on Thursday, 08 January 2026, on the N1 near the Sasol garage in Musina. The police officers were cruising in an unmarked vehicle, minding their own business during an anti-smuggling operation.

Suddenly, a white Toyota Corolla fitted with white strobe lights and “taxi patrol” stickers pulled them over. The three men inside the Corolla clearly thought they had caught a “pirate” taxi stealing their customers.

SJAMBOK AND GUNS

Believing the unmarked police car was illegally transporting hitchhikers between Musina and Makhado without “permission”, the taxi operators jumped into action.

They confronted the SAPS members aggressively. One man pointed a firearm at the officers, while another threatened them with a sjambok. They attempted to exercise policing powers they do not have, demanding answers from the occupants.

TABLES TURNED

The shock of their lives came quickly. The officers immediately identified themselves and reacted tactically.

Realizing they had just pulled a gun on the Provincial Tracking Team, the suspects tried to flee the scene. However, their sprint was short-lived. The officers moved swiftly and apprehended all three suspects.

The trio is now behind bars, learning the hard way that you cannot police the police.
