SON (14) KILLED OVER BANK CARD!
NGOJINI, NGQELENI – A father’s anger over a missing bank card has ended in a horrific tragedy that has left the local community in shock.
What was supposed to be a lesson in discipline turned deadly when a 62-year-old man allegedly beat his 14-year-old son to death after the teen reportedly used his card to splurge at a local spaza shop.
The drama started on Monday night, 05 January, around 22:00. It is alleged the father went into a blind rage when he discovered his card had been taken. According to police, the man didn’t just stop at a hiding—he allegedly used a sjambok and a stick to rain blows down on the boy.
To make matters worse, the teenager was then reportedly tied up with a rope and locked inside the house overnight.
The grim discovery was made at 04:00 on Tuesday morning when the boy was found unresponsive. He was declared dead on the scene.
“Preliminary investigations reveal the assault was precipitated by the deceased stealing his father’s bank card and using it to purchase goods,” said a police source.
Ngqeleni police didn’t waste time and pounced on the father at the residence.
The 62-year-old suspect is expected to swap his home for a dock today, Wednesday, 07 January, as he appears before the Ngqeleni Magistrate’s Court facing a heavy charge of murder.
