Runaway truck leaves trail of death in Cradock

A TRAGIC Monday has left the Cradock community in mourning after a runaway freight truck turned a peaceful drive into a graveyard.

At least two people have lost their lives following a devastating collision at the Cradock railway bridge—a scene of pure carnage that has left even seasoned emergency workers shaken.

THE KILLER VIDEO

The horror was caught on a bone-chilling video that is now circulating publicly. The footage shows the heavy truck flying down the road at high speed—on the wrong side of the road!

With no time to swerve, the truck plowed head-on into oncoming traffic. The force of the crash was so violent that the massive truck actually mounted and bounced over at least one vehicle before finally coming to a stop.

What remains is a scene of “extreme destruction,” with mangled metal and glass covering the N10.

A DEATH TRAP ROUTE

This isn’t the first time blood has been spilled on this road. The stretch of the N10 between Nxuba (Cradock) and Middelburg is becoming notorious for fatal accidents involving heavy trucks.

Locals are now demanding answers as the “highway of death” continues to claim lives. Many are pointing the finger at:

  • Unregulated freight trucks that are mechanically unfit.

  • The lack of monitoring on one of the province’s busiest corridors.

  • The failure to fix weighbridges that could catch overloaded and dangerous vehicles.

FAMILIES SHATTERED

As the news of the tragedy spreads, the community has sent out heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the blink of an eye.

“No one should go to work or head home and never come back because of a runaway truck,” said one concerned resident.

The calls for 24/7 visible traffic policing and immediate safety checks on heavy vehicles are growing louder as the province reels from yet another avoidable tragedy on its roads.
