Engineers race to fix Queendustria power trip
Sudden Power Outage in Queendustria
Businesses and residents in Komani’s Queendustria area were left without power on Tuesday afternoon after the main incomer breaker at the Queendustria substation tripped unexpectedly, cutting electricity to the industrial zone.
At 16:46, Councillor Tokkie Deysel confirmed the outage, noting that municipal teams had been dispatched to the site to investigate.
“Good afternoon, it seems as if Queendustria substation is off. Our team is going to the substation to investigate,” Deysel said in an afternoon update.
Technical Fault Identified
By 17:03, Councillor Deysel issued a follow-up message confirming that the problem was due to a tripped incomer breaker at the substation.
“The incomer breaker tripped at Queendustria substation. The operator is doing switching at the moment,” he explained.
The Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality’s electrical department began immediate switching operations to restore power to the affected area. Officials have not yet confirmed what caused the breaker to trip, but incidents like this are often linked to load surges, equipment faults, or external power fluctuations.
Industrial Impact and Community Frustration
The outage affected several factories and small businesses within the Queendustria industrial area — one of Komani’s busiest economic zones. Many business owners expressed frustration, saying recurring power issues are disrupting production and service delivery.
Restoration Efforts Underway
Municipal teams remained on-site into the early evening, performing safety inspections before re-energising the system. Residents and business owners were advised to switch off high-consumption appliances to prevent power surges once electricity is restored.
By late afternoon, officials were still conducting final switching operations, and an official update on full restoration was expected later in the evening.
