Eastern Cape to Honour Former Springbok Captain Lusanda Dumke With Provincial Official Funeral

Eastern Cape – The Eastern Cape Provincial Government will honour the late former Women’s Rugby Springboks captain Lusanda Dumke with a Special Provincial Official Funeral, Category Two, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to South African sport and society.

According to an official media statement issued on 24 December 2025, Dumke will be laid to rest on Sunday, 28 December 2025, at her home in Chebe Village, Centane, in the Eastern Cape. The funeral service is scheduled to begin at 09h00.

Recognition of a Trailblazer in Women’s Rugby

The provincial government said the special official funeral honour is being bestowed in acknowledgement of Dumke’s exceptional achievements in women’s rugby, where she proudly represented South Africa at the highest level and served as captain of the Women’s Springboks.

Her contribution played a significant role in elevating women’s rugby nationally and brought pride to both the Eastern Cape and the country. As a leader on and off the field, Dumke became a symbol of resilience, dedication, and excellence in women’s sport.

As a mark of respect, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast across the Eastern Cape Province on the day of her funeral.
