CHDM Rolls Out Major Water Supply Project in Sigangeni Village
The Chris Hani District Municipality (CHDM), under the leadership of Executive Mayor Cllr Lusanda Sizani, has officially introduced a contractor to begin the water supply and reticulation project in Sigangeni Village, Ward 17, within the Intsika Yethu Local Municipality.
This development marks a significant milestone in the municipality’s ongoing efforts to improve access to clean and reliable water for rural communities. The project will directly address long-standing water challenges experienced by residents in Sigangeni and surrounding areas.
The new system will enhance the overall water distribution network, ensuring that households receive consistent water flow and reducing dependency on water tankers and boreholes. The initiative is part of CHDM’s broader water infrastructure improvement programme, aimed at strengthening service delivery and promoting sustainable development across the Chris Hani District.
The Sigangeni Water Supply and Reticulation Project will run over a period of 35 weeks. During this time, local residents will benefit from temporary employment opportunities, bringing short-term economic relief and valuable skills development to the community. The municipality has emphasized that preference will be given to local labour to ensure that the community benefits directly from the project’s implementation.
This initiative demonstrates CHDM’s continued commitment to addressing basic service backlogs and investing in infrastructure that improves the quality of life for residents. The completion of this project will not only improve water access but also contribute to better hygiene, public health, and overall community well-being.
