Komani, Eastern Cape – The African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) in the Chris Hani Region has strongly condemned the recent brutal killings of women in the district, describing the acts as senseless and shocking.

Tragic Losses Highlight Gender-Based Violence

The victims include 53-year-old Noxolo Makhunzi from Lalini Location, Bholothwa, and Phelisa Moffat, who was reportedly beaten and burned by her boyfriend. The ANCWL said the tragic deaths are a stark reminder of the ongoing scourge of gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide that continues to terrorise communities in the region.

“Women should feel safe in their own homes and neighbourhoods, yet far too many continue to fall victim to violence that robs families, communities, and our nation of dignity and humanity,” the ANCWL stated.

Condolences to Families and Communities

The ANCWL extended heartfelt condolences to the families, relatives, and affected communities during this painful period, emphasising solidarity in their pursuit of justice.
