Days Without Reliable Water as Sterkstroom Awaits Repairs
Residents of Sterkstroom have reportedly been struggling without a reliable water supply since Thursday, 15 October, with concerns raised over the alleged lack of water tankers to assist affected households.
According to reports received by Komani News, residents have been left without water for several days, with no emergency water deliveries reportedly provided to the community.
Chris Hani District Municipality spokesperson Soso Ngceke confirmed that the municipality is currently repairing a faulty valve at the Sterkstroom reservoir.
“The district municipality is currently undertaking repairs to a faulty valve at the reservoir in Sterkstroom. The repair work is expected to be completed tomorrow,” Ngceke said on Tuesday, 20 October.
Ngceke further confirmed that water pumping has resumed, although pressure remains extremely low.
Some households in town have started receiving water, with supply expected to improve once repairs are completed on Wednesday, 21 October.
However, concerns remain over the lack of alternative water arrangements for residents who have reportedly been without water since last week.
The municipality’s response did not address the reported absence of water tankers during the interruption.
Residents will now be hoping that the repairs are completed as scheduled and that normal water supply is restored.
