Man stabbed near Tekkie Town dies at Komani police station
A 30-year-old man died outside South African Police Service after he was allegedly stabbed during an altercation in Komani on Wednesday afternoon.
According to police spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, the incident happened at about 16:10 on 20 May near Tekkie Town in the town CBD.
“It is alleged that the suspect stabbed the deceased once on the right side of his chest,” said Mgolodela.
Police say the victim, who was from Newtown in Mlungisi, ran from the scene to the police station after the stabbing. He reportedly collapsed outside the station after arriving there.
Mgolodela said the victim was assisted by the officer on duty and was still able to provide details about the alleged attacker before collapsing.
Emergency medical services later declared the man dead at the scene.
Members attached to Crime Prevention followed up on the information and traced the suspect to the Vaalbank taxi rank in Komani, police said.
A 30-year-old suspect from Cacadu was arrested and detained at Komani SAPS.
Police also recovered the alleged murder weapon. Bloodstains were reportedly found on the suspect’s clothing.
A witness statement was obtained from a person who was allegedly present during the incident.
The body was removed from the scene by forensic services after the victim was certified dead.
A murder case has been opened and the suspect is expected to appear in the Komani Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 22 May.
