Horror in Nomzamo: Newborn baby dumped dead in the veld

Police walked towards the baby to check if she was still alive while the community was watching.

A lifeless body of a newborn baby was found dumped in the veld between Railway and Magxaki on Tuesday morning.

The body of the little girl was found with what looked like burnt scars naked.

According to the eyewitness, he was at the veld to relieve himself when he noticed the lifeless body.

Aphiwe Nqumse (23) said together with his friend Sinazo went to the veld to relieve himself as there was no water in Nomzamo on Tuesday morning around 9am.

“When I went back home together with my friend Sinazo I noticed a human leg and I called Sinazo to check. She ran and I cried calling the community to come and see,” he said.

He said they then called the police.

“All this happened around 9am. This is shocking and I don’t think I will be able to sleep today,” he said.

When Komani News arrived at the scene, a group of people were at the scene and the police started arriving.

The baby was covered with a blanket that was found in the veld.

When the forensic department arrived, they wrapped the baby with the blanket and took it.

The community could not believe the cruelty of letting a baby to die in the cold.

One community member said the mother should have given the baby up for adoption as there are many people who would love to raise the child.

“This is bad and I don’t understand why a mother would do this. I wish that the baby haunts her all her life,” said the community member.

Police spokeswoman Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said Mlungisi police are investigating a case of concealment of birth.
