Ongoing Harassment in Aloevale Linked to Suspected ‘Tik Kop’ Users
ANONYMOUS REPORTS OF ‘TIK KOP’ USERS HARASSING ALOEVALE RESIDENTS
Komani, Eastern Cape — Residents in Aloevale say ongoing harassment from alleged drug users has left parts of the community feeling unsafe, with one woman reporting an assault this week after she refused to hand over a cigarette.
Resident Says She Was Assaulted on Wednesday
A local woman, who asked to remain anonymous due to safety concerns, told Komani News that she was approached by an alleged “tik kop” on Wednesday. According to her account, the man became aggressive after she refused to give him a cigarette.
She says the confrontation quickly escalated.
The woman explained that she had to run to a neighbour’s home to escape the attack. She later opened a case at the Komani Police Station. While she is fearful of further harassment, she says reporting the case was important for her safety and for awareness in the community.
Community Describes Ongoing Problem
Several Aloevale residents say this is not an isolated incident. According to community members, suspected drug users in the area have become increasingly aggressive, creating what they describe as a “dangerous environment” for families and children.
Residents say the ongoing presence of “tik kops” has contributed to a sense of constant tension in the neighbourhood, making some people afraid to walk freely, especially in the evenings.
Residents Say Situation Has Become ‘a Living Hell’
The woman who was assaulted says the situation has been worsening for months. While she emphasises that not all individuals struggling with addiction are violent, she believes the behaviour of some users has made daily life in Aloevale extremely difficult.
Other residents echoed similar concerns, saying the disruptive behaviour, intimidation, and unpredictable outbursts have created what some describe as “a living hell,” especially for vulnerable households.
Police Case Opened, Community Calls for Action
With a case now formally opened, residents say they hope police visibility will increase in Aloevale, particularly in streets where harassment is frequently reported.
Community members are urging authorities to intervene, both through law enforcement and through social interventions aimed at addressing drug abuse and improving safety.
