Komani, Eastern Cape — Businessman Killed in Execution-Style Shooting Outside Home

Komani, Eastern Cape — A prominent Komani businessman was fatally shot in a brutal, execution-style attack outside his home in Masabalala Street, R-Section, near Lukhanji Primary School, on Monday evening at around 20:20.

The victim, a well-known figure in the local business community, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died instantly. Reports indicate he was shot seven times—four times in the head and three times in the chest—underscoring the calculated nature of the assault. Emergency services arrived approximately an hour after the shooting, but the businessman had already succumbed to his injuries.

Suspect Known, Police Launch Intensive Manhunt

Komani Police Spokesperson Yolisa Mgolodela confirmed that the case is being treated as a high priority.

“Yes, there was a shooting,” Mgolodela stated. “The commander of the Komani police has confirmed that the suspect is known to the authorities and is currently on the run. Police are conducting an intensive investigation to locate and apprehend the perpetrator.”

The early knowledge of the suspect’s identity suggests the attack was deliberate and targeted, raising concern among residents and local business owners.

Tragic Incident Linked to Minor Seeking Help

Eyewitnesses say the events leading to the killing began when a 14-year-old girl, allegedly spanked by two men at a nearby shop, ran to the businessman seeking protection.

A witness explained: “The child came back crying, saying she had been spanked. The businessman approached the men, and a confrontation began. During the chase that followed, one of the men pulled out a gun and shot the businessman multiple times.”

The eyewitness further said another person present during the incident managed to escape unharmed, highlighting the targeted nature of the attack.

The attack, carried out in a residential area near a primary school, has left the R-Section community reeling and raised fears over violent crime in Komani.

Komani police have launched a full-scale manhunt and are appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Komani Police Station immediately.
