Police Appeal for Help Finding Missing Lusikisiki Teacher

Lusikisiki police have appealed to the public for assistance in locating a 56-year-old man who has been missing for more than a year.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), Atembele Makobokobo, from the Tshandatshe locality near Lusikisiki, was last seen on 18 September 2024 at around 19:00.

Police say Makobokobo left his home that evening driving his white Toyota Hilux without a canopy, bearing registration number BH 51 TP ZN. He has not been seen since, and authorities say his cellphone and valuable personal documents were left behind at home, raising concern about his disappearance.

Makobokobo was employed as a teacher at Rhotso Junior Secondary School (J.S.S.) in Lusikisiki, and his disappearance has caused worry among his family and the community.

Despite the time that has passed since he went missing, police say the case remains active and investigators are still searching for information that could help trace his whereabouts.

Lusikisiki police are urging anyone who may have seen Makobokobo, his vehicle, or who has any information about what may have happened to come forward.

Members of the public can contact the Head of Lusikisiki Detectives, Colonel Elam Makhamba, on 082 302 5118, or report information to the nearest police station. Information can also be provided anonymously via the Crime Stop hotline at 08600 10111.

Police say even the smallest piece of information could assist investigators in determining what happened to the missing teacher.

Authorities continue to encourage community members to assist in cases involving missing persons, noting that public cooperation is often crucial in helping families find answers.
