Gift of the Givers has deployed teams to Middledrift in the Raymond Mhlaba Municipality to assess storm-related damage and coordinate urgent humanitarian relief for affected communities.

The assessment is being conducted in partnership with Amathole District Disaster Management, following severe weather that caused damage to homes, infrastructure and essential services in parts of the area. Strong winds and heavy rain were reported to have left several households vulnerable, prompting a rapid response from disaster management authorities and relief organisations.

According to information shared by Gift of the Givers, teams on the ground are currently evaluating the extent of the damage and identifying the most urgent needs. This process includes assessing structural damage to homes, the impact on families displaced by the storm, and immediate requirements such as shelter, food, clean water and basic household items.

Middledrift, a rural area within the Raymond Mhlaba Municipality in the Eastern Cape, is particularly vulnerable to extreme weather events due to housing conditions and limited access to resources.
