Man killed after bakkie overturns on R61 near Tarkastad

A man has died after a single-vehicle crash in the early hours of 13 April 2026 on the R61 between Komani and Tarkastad.

Emergency services were called to the scene at about 03:10 after a Toyota Hilux bakkie reportedly lost control, struck roadside barriers and overturned, coming to rest on its side.

One fatality at the scene

According to incident information, one male occupant was declared dead at the scene. The victim was found trapped underneath the vehicle following the crash.

A coordinated emergency response was activated, with EMS, traffic officials, SAPS, forensic pathology services and a breakdown team all attending the scene.
