Police Arrest Komani Suspect After Tik and Mandrax Worth Over R25 000 Seized
A 38-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Komani Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 17 November 2025, after being arrested during an intelligence-driven police operation that led to the seizure of tik and mandrax tablets valued at more than R25 000.
The arrest took place on Friday, 14 November 2025, and was confirmed in a media statement issued by the Office of the Provincial Commissioner of the Eastern Cape.
Intelligence Operation Leads to Major Seizure
According to SAPS, a multidisciplinary team comprising members of the Komani Flying Squad, Komani Dog Unit (K9), and Komani Crime Intelligence (CI) conducted a coordinated operation at a premises in Komani suspected of involvement in drug activity.
During the operation, police reportedly found:

Tik (methamphetamine) weighing 198 grams, and

790 mandrax tablets
The combined estimated street value of the drugs totals over R25 000. The suspect was arrested at the scene and detained on allegations of possession and dealing in drugs.
SAPS stated that the operation was intelligence-driven and formed part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on drug distribution networks operating within the region.
Court Appearance Scheduled
The arrested suspect is due to appear before the Komani Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 17 November 2025. The matter will proceed through the normal legal process. Police emphasised that investigations remain active and that no further details can be released at this stage.
In accordance with South African law, the suspect remains presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Strengthened Police Collaboration Praised
SAPS highlighted the success of the operation as a direct result of teamwork between the involved units. The Flying Squad provided tactical support, the K9 Unit assisted with search operations, and Crime Intelligence supplied verified information that guided the operation.
The Provincial Commissioner’s Office noted that such multidisciplinary operations play a significant role in disrupting local drug markets and improving community safety.
Drug Enforcement in Komani Remains a Priority
Komani and surrounding communities continue to face challenges associated with drug distribution and related criminal activities. SAPS has encouraged residents to report suspicious behaviour or information through official reporting channels to support future investigations.
Police reiterated that community cooperation, combined with ongoing intelligence-led operations, remains central to reducing the availability of drugs in the area.

The case will be presented before the court, where decisions around charges, bail, and further proceedings will be made based on the evidence presented. All confiscated substances will undergo standard forensic processes.
