Hangklip Students Excel at JP Botha Inter-School Meeting

Hoërskool Hangklip High School delivered a strong and disciplined performance at the JP Botha Inter-School Athletics Meeting 2025, held in Bloemfontein. Competing against schools from across South Africa, the Hangklip athletes represented the Eastern Cape with pride, achieving six podium finishes — two silver and four bronze medals — across a range of track and field events.

Consistent Performances Across All Age Divisions

The Hangklip athletics team competed in several categories from U15 to U19, demonstrating commitment, teamwork, and versatility throughout the meeting.

In the U15 girls division, Maritza Jordaan achieved 8th place in both the Shot Put and Javelin, as well as 6th place in the Discus. Her results reflected steady progress and a growing competitive spirit within the junior ranks of Hangklip athletics.

Among the U16 girls, Angelique van der Merwe competed in the sprints, placing 10th in both the 100m and 200m, while Carmi van Wyk finished 8th in the Shot Put. Their consistent performances contributed to the team’s balanced representation across disciplines.

The U16 boys showed notable strength, with Kungawo Bobo securing second place in the Triple Jump and finishing 7th in the Long Jump. Dinelethu Banca placed 5th in the 1500m and 7th in the 800m, while Jandré van der Berg took silver in the Shot Put, adding to the school’s medal tally.

Senior Athletes Set the Standard in Bloemfontein

In the U19 girls category, Lanya Oldham produced an impressive endurance display, earning bronze in the 3000m and finishing 4th in the 1500m. Preddie Mbodila delivered another standout performance for Hangklip, claiming bronze in the 400m, 6th in the 200m, and silver in the 100m Hurdles.

Runique Davids added further depth to the team’s results with 7th place in the Shot Put, 8th in the Discus, and a bronze in the Javelin. Her results highlighted Hangklip’s competitive balance between track and field events.

In the U19 boys division, JJ Labuschagne, Clayton Pretorius, and Aqhama Rawula all competed in the throwing and jumping events, with placements in Shot Put, Discus, and Long Jump. Their combined efforts rounded off a solid all-round team performance.
